Abstract:

Combination of shape and material data presented in a common data structure would provide a platform for effective environment reconstruction and target detection. LiDAR and Hyperspectral (HSI) data provide a vast amount of information, which can be redundant, that can allow for a complete reconstruction of surfaces that generated reflections captured by respective sensors. Physical approach, similar to electric field calculation of electron clouds, is used to reconstruct the shapes captured by LiDAR data, while a sub-space representation is used to best approximate materials present in HIS data. Two sets are merged together by assigning appropriate materials to reconstructed surfaces. Some of the benefits of this approach are discussed and experimental data is used to show the compression capability.
